Head South son, head home!

About 3 months ago 6 UCLA under grad students volunteered for my class.  The three were in the Archeology department and were looking to do some hours towards a class project.  After their time was up and their volunteering hours complete, they left, except for one young man.  If you saw him you would immediately say he is a young Che Guevara, an exact look-a-like. Thin, long haired, bearded but the type of beard that only an 18-year old can grow, thin and spotty. Benito was different.  He had been raised in the Westlake district in downtown LA raised by a single mother in a closet-like apartment.  He sought out his biological father and located him through while at UCLA.  He discovered that his Father had been a migrant worker who had toiled in the fields all over the States.  He also realized that his indigenous looks came from his Father's side of the family.  He began to develop a relationship with that side of the family and became aware that his grandmother, Father's mother, was in her late 80's and living alone in Puebla, Mexico.  He was told that her spanish was decent and that her health was failing her.  Come this June when Pablo graduates, he is moving to Puebla to take care of his grandma and learn Nahuac.  This young man is leaving the land of opportunity to seek his roots, to find himself.  I admire that resolve.  I wish him the best of luck and in my book he is already a winner.

I must admit,Friday night, in the middle of the night, my partner shook the bed and scared the lights out of me!
